Amanda M. Ramirez: Before You Click “Submit”: Understanding Film Festival Submissions, Selection, and Expectations

Participants learn what materials matter, how to know if a project is ready, and how to avoid wasting money or time when submitting to Film Festivals. Through interactive exercises, polls, and group discussions, students explore virtual vs. in-person festivals, screenwriting competitions, and programming decisions. Designed to give first-time filmmakers confidence and practical knowledge for submitting work.

Amanda Ramirez is a filmmaker, media professional, and writer/creator of the Substack "Gray Matters" by Grayscale Media. Her work spans documentary and narrative film, as well as cultural commentary focused on media literacy, representation, and storytelling. Her projects have screened at national and international film festivals, and her writing explores how media shapes public perception and cultural discourse.
Robert Field: Illustration in Action: Techniques, Process, and Practice

Join a hands-on illustration workshop focused on building strong drawing fundamentals and professional techniques. Through live demonstrations and guided exercises, students will learn approaches to line, form, composition, and visual clarity while developing confidence in their illustration process. This session is ideal for aspiring illustrators, designers, and visual storytellers looking to refine core skills, strengthen observation, and gain practical.

Robert Field is an illustrator, graphic designer, and educator. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Long Island University, C. W. Post Campus, and a Master of Arts degree from Syracuse University. His illustrations and graphic designs have appeared in a wide range of publications, media, and venues around the world. He has served as a full-time and adjunct educator at several colleges on Long Island.
Nicholas Shanman: I Mostly Blame Myself: 0 to 1M in under 2 years

Ever wonder how to write sketch comedy like SNL? In this session, we’ll break down how to write and perform sketches, do live table reads, and share the strategies that helped grow I Mostly Blame Myself to 2M+ social followers with parodies, musicals, and original comedy. Come create, laugh, and get inspired. No idea is a bad idea. In fact, bad ideas are often the funniest!

Nick Shanman is the creator and head writer of I Mostly Blame Myself, an Off-Broadway sketch comedy show with over one million YouTube subscribers and 2M followers worldwide. Go behind the scenes of Five Towns College on an exclusive tour of the studios, labs, and technology hubs not featured during the LIMAS conference. Led by Dean of Institutional Production Thomas Calandrillo, this guided experience highlights production-focused campus spaces—including the film set, newly renovated black box theatre, control rooms, and audio suites—while showcasing recent technology upgrades, future build plans, and insights into the College’s evolving, media-driven curriculum.

Rachel Ann Strauss: Behind the Mic: The Truths About Starting a Podcast

So, you want to start a podcast? You have a great idea. Where to next? This workshop takes attendees through subjects like Hosting, Distribution, Equipment, Editing, and more. Attendees will have a fully fleshed out podcast concept, marketing materials and be on their way to creating a pilot episode.

Rachel “La Loca” Strauss is an Actor, Content Producer, Podcaster, VO Artist, Marketer and Adjunct Lecturer teaching Podcasting and Media Operations. She is the host of the two-time WEBBY Award nominated and two-time Signal Award WINNING Podcast, Latinos Out Loud, which has 400+ episodes. She is creator of the all female comedy show, HERlarious has been featured in notable comedy festivals around the world country.

Dr. Ty: Creating With a Purpose: Turning What You Know into a Business

Create With Purpose is an interactive session that challenges students to move past “just creating” and start thinking strategically. Through guided discussion and real-time activities, students explore how skills in media, gaming, and digital content can be shaped into real business opportunities. Students focus on solving real problems, creating value, and making smart, intentional moves, not chasing trends.

Dr. Ty is an entrepreneur, consultant, and educator who helps individuals turn creative skills into sustainable businesses. With a background in business, leadership, and psychology, she focuses on strategy, problem-solving, and intentional decision-making, not trends or hype. Dr. Ty empowers students to recognize the value in what they already know and build with purpose.
Eli Johnson: Emotion in Motion: Turning Feelings into Fuel

Participate in an interactive SEL-based workshop that helps students turn their feelings into fuel. Through activities rooted in self-awareness, communication, and S.Q.U.A.D. Goals, participants learn how to build healthy relationships, manage emotions, and collaborate with confidence. Using relatable scenarios and hands-on reflection, the session empowers young creatives to understand themselves, connect & secure careers with purpose.

Blending real-world industry skills with social-emotional learning, he helps students strengthen their creative identity while preparing for college and career opportunities. This work bridges media, education, and community impact to prepare the next generation of storytellers, innovators, and leaders.
Matt O'Leary: Content Creation as a Career

This workshop explores different social media platforms used and what kind of content works best on each platform through the lens of monetizing content and making it a career. Students will film a reel/tiktok talking about the Long Island Media Arts Show.

Five Towns College Mass Comm Students will be covering the conference all day long. This will be your chance to visit our TV Studio and participate in one of our live broadcasts!

Romeo Tirone, ASC, DGA: Master Class: Professional Camera Operating

An interactive Master Class explaining the basics of composing and operating Film Cameras, Demonstrating the Many ways of creating shots for film and video, Utilizing Techno Cranes, Camera Dollies, and Handheld Cameras. The students will get a chance to operate all cameras and see first-hand what it takes to create a multi-Camera shoot.

Romeo Tirone ASC, DGA is a Director and Cinematographer whose career spans more than four decades in film and television. A member of the Directors Guild of America (DGA) and the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC), his work includes acclaimed series such as Dexter, True Blood, The Tick, and Manifest.
Colin Goldberg: Generative AI: Future is Now for Creative Production

This hands-on session explores how generative AI can support idea development, image creation, music composition, and video production. Artist and designer Colin Goldberg demonstrates how these tools fit into a modern creative workflow. Students will contribute ideas to generate original content over the course of the session, gaining a clearer understanding of how AI is being used professionally and how it can expand their own creative possibilities.

Colin Goldberg is a contemporary artist who blends painting, digital tools, and AI to create expressive multimedia work. He coined the term Techspressionism to describe art made with technology as a form of personal expression. A Pollock-Krasner grant recipient and honorary doctorate from Five Towns College, he shares his practice with students to show how creativity and emerging tools like AI can open new paths for artists and creators today.
Harold Naideau: Pro Photo Skills: Fashion Photography with Models

Students will have the fun opportunity to work with an incredibly beautiful professional fashion model with backgrounds and studio lighting in a professional digital studio environment under the direction of an extremely experienced, very talented professional New York photographer.

Harold Naideau is an award-winning photographer from New York City based on Long Island. He is also a Professor of Photography at several regional colleges and universities. He has exhibited in galleries across the country and worldwide and has published several well received books of photography.

Evan is an Interactive Media Arts Division adjunct professor where he teaches Game Design & Development and is the Head Esports Coach for Five Towns College. He graduated from Adelphi University with his BS, Magna Cum Laude, in Computer & Management Information Systems with a concentration in Game Development and minors in Computer Science and Video Game Design. He co-authored the textbook Game Development with Construct 2 published by Apress.

After chasing a rugby ball and studying sociology, Masatora finally turned to performing arts as his true calling and came to the US. Trained in vocal first, he explores the musical landscape of drama, space, and emotion where hidden memories and indescribable feelings dwell. Described as a "composer of cultural crossroads" by ACF, his unique eclecticism attracts nontraditional chamber groups, visual artists, theatrical artists, and film makers.
John Machado: Immersive Sound Adventures: ATMOS Audio

The presentation will focus on immersive audio mixing and production using live examples. Listeners will be seated inside an environment surrounded by speakers. They will be treated to sound traveling around them. All formats of immersive audio will be discussed and will include a discussion of the past, present, and future of immersive audio. Listeners will experience binaural playback. Headphones will be provided so each attendee can come in, sit down, and listen.

A Pro Tools certified engineer in Music, Post-Production, Video Games, and Dolby Atmos, John Machado has recorded countless records, produced high-impact commercials, and worked on many films bringing depth, clarity, and emotion to every production.
