How the Long Island Media Arts Show got started…
Several decades ago, the directors of the New York State Summer School of the Arts (NYSSSA) began searching for the most hardworking and talented students to attend their new Summer School of the Media Arts. To assist in this effort, they decided to sponsor regional shows throughout the state for high school students to present their media arts work to peers and evaluators.
The first media arts shows were small and some have remained that way. The Long Island show, however, gained steam with the support of its host site and partner, Five Towns College. It has grown into a major arts education event featuring student produced video, animation, photography and digital art. Many hundreds of students and their teachers representing high schools from throughout Nassau and Suffolk counties have participated in the Long Island Media Arts Show every year.
Though the show paused during Covid 19 pandemic, Five Towns College is now honored to host the newly formatted 2022 Long Island Luminaries Media Arts Festival. Once again, high school media arts students will have the opportunity to participate in an exciting and inspiring media arts event.
